As part of a wider community initiative to support people experiencing homelessness in Jersey, Mrs Barnard organised a special Tinathon at Haute Vallée School to collect much-needed tinned and canned food for the Jersey Shelter Trust.
The Jersey Shelter Trust has been supporting people in Jersey for many years, providing essential services including accommodation, food, clothing and support for people who are homeless or facing difficult circumstances.
Mrs Barnard organised the Tinathon to give our school community an opportunity to come together and make a positive difference locally. Students and staff were encouraged to donate tins of food, while also taking part in an exciting House competition.
Our four school houses — Fliquet, Rocco, Seymour and Kempt — are competing to collect the most tins. The house that collects the most will earn valuable House Points, which will contribute towards the overall House Championship at the end of the school year.
After winning last year’s championship, Kempt are the house to beat, but Fliquet, Rocco and Seymour still have plenty of opportunities to catch up. With charity events taking place throughout the year, every donation and every House Point could make a difference to the final result!
More importantly, the Tinathon is about much more than winning House Points. It is an opportunity for our school to support people in our local community who may be experiencing difficult circumstances. A simple donation can help provide essential food to someone who needs it.
A huge thank you to Mrs Barnard for organising this important community initiative, and to all the students, staff and families who have supported the Tinathon by donating hundreds of tins.
Well done to Fliquet, Rocco, Seymour and Kempt — may the best house win!
