Who We Are...
Hi! We’re the Digital Leaders. We are a team of 14 students from different year groups. We work alongside students, teachers and industry experts to make a difference at our school. We are passionate about technology and its use in learning. Please read this brief overview of our journey...
September - October 2014
Our application process consisted of a form on the VLE and an interview with Miss McCartan (our Head of ICT) and an Assistant Headteacher. We were then selected and each got an iPad Mini. The first few weeks were dedicated to helping teachers of all different abilities.
We hosted the first ever student meet in Jersey - the Inspire session. We invited a variety of primary and secondary schools from across the island to share our journeys as Digital Leaders and to work together on how to move forward.
January - March 2015
We focused on planning for two major events; the first Inspire session and Digital Learning Day. We hired new Digital Leaders in anticipation of the increased workload. We created instructional videos for our core apps; you can find these on our Vimeo here.
We held our biggest event to date; Digital Learning Day. We invited 13 businesses to run workshops in different sectors of technology, including virtual reality, e-health and photography. The students participating were from Year 9 and they all said that they massively enjoyed the day. In attendance were Philip Ozouf, assistant chief minister; Rod Bryans, Minister of Education; and Justin Donovan, Director of Education. The event was sponsored by Sure and featured in the local media.
In November Jersey had their Annual Tech Fair! There were many interesting stalls like “3D Printing” stall and “Virtual Reality” stalls with goggles; there was even a Drone flying station with the brand new drones and tricks! We even had our own Digital Leader Stand! This is what happened:
We placed a stall in this year's Jersey Tech Fair, where we shared our Digital journey. We explained how we have changed Haute Vallée School and the community around us. We also explained how the senior Digital Leaders have involved youngsters from year 7, training them and giving them new skills.
In December we filmed a Christmas video to raise money for Band Aid. We held a vote on what song to choose (War is Over by John Lennon) and which teachers we would choose to perform the music video. In the end Star Struck 2015 was a success and most of the school turned up to watch the spectacular Christmas Concert!
