ORCHESTRAS ON THE CARDS AT HAUTE VALLÉE & GRAINVILLE SCHOOLS
Haute Vallée School and Grainville have plans to develop their own orchestras in partnership with the Jersey Music Service. The 'Learning to Play' programme is an exciting music initiative that will be launched in the coming few weeks to parents of Year 7 students. The ‘Learning to Play’ programme will commence in January 2019, and free of charge, provide fifty Year 7 students with the opportunity to learn to play in an orchestra. Year 7 students will able to join one of four sections of the orchestra, the string section (violin, viola, cello), woodwind section (flute, clarinet saxophone), brass section (trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, tuba) or percussion section (tuned and untuned percussion instruments). The ‘Learning to Play’ programme will be extended in the next three school years (2019, 2020 and 2021), totalling 150 students by January 2021. This public-privately funded initiative will provide any student with the right dedication and commitment, an opportunity to become a member of an active orchestra, performing in school, on Island and potentially, in a few years, overseas. Students joining the 'Learning to Play' programme will be given a musical instrument and have access group peripatetic lessons post-school on a weekly basis. A presentation evening at Grainville to Year 7 students and their parents is planned for Tuesday 4th December at 6.00 p.m. A presentation evening to Haute Vallée Year 7 students and their parents is planned for Monday 3rd December at 6.00 p.m. Year 7 parents will be receiving introductory letters in the coming week.
